Project Description:

Part of my research is focused on the identification and
characterization of new biocatalysts, mainly from plant donors,
suitable for application in the organic synthesis of pharmaceutical
intermediates. This involves different oxidoreductases like ADH and
enoate reductases as well as polyketide synthases. I focus on
wild-type enzymes, but also explore flexibility in substrate scope and
activity by mutagenesis and rational protein design. Another field of
interest is the development of reactor systems for the selective
biotransformation of APIs. The aim is to establish new ways in which
biocatalysts and their numerous advantages may be exploited for
industrial synthetic chemistry.
